Mary Sutton / Jenny Cockell case

This is a case capable of making even the most skeptical of reincarnation stop to think. Jenny Cockell, an Englishwoman residing in Northamptonshire, England, was since childhood tormented by dreams and visions. She saw herself in another time and place, like a young mother, in a hospital room, alone, agonizing over death and thinking of the children she was leaving behind.

It was then, in search of answers, that she decided to do a hypnosis session and so discovered the truth that would change not only her life but also the life of a family that had been separated more than 30 years before. The story was told in the book, which also became the movie "Across Time and Death." (Jenny Cockwell)

One day, looking at a map of Malahide city, north of Dublin, Ireland, she intuitively felt that she had lived there under the name of Mary, and had been a mother with several children. Determined to dig deeper into the whole story, Jenny went to Malahide, where she was able to find a farmer who remembered a family similar to the one she described. After searching the region's orphanage history and placing ads in the newspapers, she was able to find one of her children, who was old enough to be her father.

It was then that Jenny finally unraveled the story of Mary Sutton. She located the old house where she had lived, which was in ruins, and reunited the six surviving children, all in the age range between 60-70 years. The initial contact was somewhat difficult, which is understandable because it is not trivial something to appear saying to be the reincarnation of their mother. In addition, the children had a Catholic background, which made it even more difficult to accept the hypothesis that Jenny was their mother reincarnated. However, knowing all the details of the memories Jenny revealed, they came to believe that she could have been their deceased mother. They even found their physiognomy very similar to Mary's.

Sonny Sutton, the 75-year-old son, said: "There's a lot to be explained, but I'm not sure about reincarnation. On the other hand, Jenny knows things only my mother and I knew.

"A lot of my memories came in isolated fragments, and sometimes I had difficulty making sense of them. But other parts were quite complete and full of details. It was like a jigsaw puzzle with certain erased pieces, some out of place and some very sharp and easy to fit. The children occupied most of my memories, as did the cottage and its location. Other places and people were not so clear to me" Jenny says in an excerpt from her book.

Jenny Cockell today has no doubt that she is the reincarnation of Mary Sutton, mother of ten children, two of them dead at birth. Mary had a difficult life with an aggressive husband, even coming to starve. In giving birth to a girl in 1932, she could not stand it and passed away. Her death and the distant personality of her husband caused the family to separate: two of the girls were sent to a convent while four children were housed in an orphanage and the two older boys remained with their father. Jenny's search eventually reunited the brothers.
